The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBA) scheme was launched by the government of india in August 2004 for setting up residential school at upper promary level for girls belonging predominantly to the ST, SC, OBC and minoroties in difficult areas. Initially it run as a separate scheme, but was merged with the SSA programme with effect form 1st April 2010 and the SSA fraemework of implementation being revised to correspond to the RTE Act, the KGBV component of SSA would also be Implemented in the overall context child rights and child entitlements and in harmony with the spirit and stipulations of the Act.
 
These are school for vulnerable, disenfranchised, displaced, marginalized and endangered adolescent girls from very impoverished backgrounds.
These are often orphans or victims of natural disasters or social injustice, discarded dropout, forgotten or unable to be cared for by the community. Welfare India is helping to empower these young girls to reintegrate them into the society. The 100 girls of each school are 10-14 years old. These girls are picked up from lower caste, minorities and under privileged section of our society. They are provided extracurricular classes, like dance, music, drawing, computer etc.
 
Utpreran Kendra
Welfare India implemented a programme recently by the financial support of serva siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Katihar. At present it is running at Korha and Manihari block of Katihar district. 100 boy child age between 7 to 14 years are studying here. It is a residential centre where all the facilities are given at free of cost. All the children belonging to SC, ST, and minorities family. The main purpose of this centre is improve child education whose parents are not able to give proper education to their child.
